The right lighting reveals the true tone of hair colour and sets the atmosphere of your salon. Here is what you need to know when planning your lighting scheme.
Why does it matter so much?
In a hair salon, lighting is far more than decoration. For colouring, highlights and blow-drys, the quality of light directly affects the quality of the work, because stylists need to see the true colour of the hair.
A layered lighting scheme
Good salon lighting never relies on a single source. When ambient, task and decorative lighting are planned together, the result is both functional and striking.
- Ambient lighting: illuminates the whole space evenly and without shadows
- Task lighting: shows the face and hair clearly in front of the mirror
- Decorative lighting: creates atmosphere through shelves, niches and wall details
Colour temperature and colour rendering
Neutral white tones close to natural daylight at the styling stations ensure colours are perceived accurately. In waiting and relaxation areas, warmer tones create a more welcoming feel.
When choosing fittings, opt for products with a high colour rendering index (CRI). The higher the value, the closer colours look to reality under the light.
Pay special attention to mirror lighting
Lighting placed around the mirror prevents shadows on the face and lets clients see themselves at their best. Backlit mirrors can also become a signature detail of your salon.
